It is very hard to be original these days. There is so much real talent out there. For beginners, like myself, it is almost impossible not to “copy” someone else’s original work, because there is just too much out there. When I have seen this exquisite brooch on the Net, I fell in love!. Who would not! What a brilliant masterpiece! At the risk to sound strange, I must say I do not like to wear jewellery, but I like to look at it and admire it, as a piece of art. Hence, I decided to paint it. In this step-by-step drawing, I used 3D mixed media techniques with outliners – see my posts on pointillism.
Here is the list of the materials I used:
- Used tea bags
- Various acrylic paint (metallic and matte)
- 3d Pouch medium
- Permanent markers
- Modelling paste
I used fine modelling paste (applied with a small brush, dried and painted over with acrylic) to exaggerate the wings of the butterfly, for a 3D look. My goal was to retain this jewellery-like effect with an added vintage flavor. It definitely needs a good frame! What do you think?
